The be active Corporate Cup interview.

In the first of four interviews with be active Corporate Cup participants we talk with Chris Mayle, 29, who works for a property development company.

MORNIN’ CHRIS. ARE YOU FEELING FIT?

I am thanks. I’ve been to the gym this morning so I feel fresh and ready to take on the world.

ARE YOU A REGULAR GYM-NISTA?

I don’t work to a program or anything but I try to go two times a week. I tend away from cardio stuff and use the time for weights.

DO YOU PLAY REGULAR SPORT?

I play footy at the weekend and train once a week during the season. I’m less active during the summer – maybe the odd soccer kick-about or chasing a Frisbee.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST CORPORATE CUP?

It is. I have actually entered as an individual but I am trying to convince some friends to make up a team. I’ve never been a long distance runner so I’m a bit nervous about it all as I’ve registered for the 4.5k. My office is not far from River Torrens and I’m going to try to do the run before work in the morning.

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE CORPORATE CUP?

My mum has been doing it for years but is injured this year. She forwarded an email from ‘Life. Be in it’ promoting the event to me and I thought I’d give it a go. It’ll be good to complement the gym and footy with some running.

WILL YOU BE TAKING IT SERIOUSLY?

To be honest I’m quite competitive so if I do manage to get a team together we’ll want to do well although I’m not sure I understand the scoring system. Personally, though, I’m looking forward to trying to improve my time each week.

WILL YOU BE TRAINING FOR IT?

I’ll have to because I’ve never run 4.5k before. I’m planning to run the course a few times and maybe swap weights for the running machine in the gym for a few weeks as well.

DO YOU KNOW THAT WE ORGANISE TRAINING RUNS IN THE WEEK OFF DURING THE SERIES?

Really? I might do. I suppose it’s a good idea to keep running every week although I’m wondering if I can fit everything in. I’ll keep my options open with this!

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME CHRIS. ANY FINAL WORDS OF WISDOM?

Go the Crows!
